🍽 Best upscale restaurants in the Tri-Cities

Plus a new hidden sushi gem, a contest, and is a local favourite closing?

Hey foodies!

Welcome back to another edition of the tastiest email you’ll get all week.

One of my favourite things to do each week is visit the local farmers market (summer in Coquitlam, fall/winter in Port Moody) – it’s become the norm in my family. My daughter goes crazy for Ca Croustille’s croissants, and I’m always happy to see Paul the Mushroom Man (at least, that’s what I call him… his name is Paul, and he’s a man who sells mushrooms. So. Duh.)

Do you have a weekly shop you visit? Reply back and let me know, would love to check it out and share with others!

Alright, let’s jump in.

P.S. The most clicked thing in our last newsletter was the dome dining experience happening in Port Moody.

P.P.S. Would love it if you could share our newsletter with some friends!

NEW SUSHI SPOT

Miu Japanese Cuisine serves up “typical and creative sushi combos”

📷️ Jin Lee at Miu

Behold, a new sushi spot! From the owners of I Love Sushi in Coquitlam, Miu opened in Poco earlier this summer, and it’s definitely a hidden gem.

From salmon and hamachi carpaccio to crispy oshi sushi and blue crab pasta, they have everything you’d ever want (and maybe more).

GOOD EATS

Best places for an upscale/fancy-ish meal

📷️ On & Off

This post from Chelsey asking about upscale restaurants in the TCs sparked a ton of conversation, and a realization that “upscale” is very subjective.

Without including some of the usual favourites (The Keg, Cactus, etc), here are some of the upscale-ish / fancy-ish spots:

Any we missed that should be on here?

🗞 News

Andes Latin Foods in Port Moody now serves Venezuelan Arepas every weekend.

There’s talk (in another local FB group) that Livelyhood is closing. This seems to be false, and that the liquor store next door (Berezan Liquor Store) is closing instead. The restaurant group owns over a dozen restaurants and filed for creditor protection this summer. We’ll keep our eyes on this and update as we hear what’s going on.

In Vancouver restaurant news, Gastown’s beloved French brasserie Jules Bistro has announced it’s closing after more than 15 years.
