Mama Said to open brick-and-mortar pizza shop in Port Moody

Beer and pizza is the winningest of combos, in our honest opinion.

So it makes perfect sense that Mama Said, the New-York-style pizza food truck that has been posted outside of Twin Sails Brewery on Port Moody’s Brewers Row, will be opening their first brick-and-mortar location this Friday.

As a staple go-to when brewery boozers are in need of some carbs, Mama Said’s owners have embedded themselves in the Port Moody brewery community—and not just as the owners of the fan-favourite food truck.

“We’ve been part of the Port Moody community for a while now, and wanted to open a casual restaurant where the neighbourhood can come in with their family and friends, and with the truck, we can see how pizza brings people together,” says Cody Allmin, co-founder of Boxset Collective, who co-founded Port Moody’s Twin Sails Brewing with his brother Clay, in a release.

“What’s great about the new place is we can start experimenting with more dishes and drinks that complement our favourite pizzas. Vanessa is super creative in the kitchen, and there is a lot to look forward to.”

The restaurant is expected to open at noon on Friday, April 21, and will have hours from noon to 11pm on weekdays and noon to midnight on weekends. Seating will be first come, first served, though takeaway orders and delivery will be possible.

As for the menu, food truck staples like Pine & Swing, Hugh Fungus, and The Mama will all be available for order at the brick-and-mortar restaurant, along with new items like Day Walker (black garlic sauce, mushroom, caramelized onion, olive tapenade, grana padano, and fennel fronds), Bianco (white sauce, mozzarella, toasted rosemary, and hot honey), and Papa Roni (tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, fennel seed, and grana padano).

“Sharing great food with people is my passion, and it’ll be amazing to have customers be able to stay with us, enjoy their meal, and have a little drink,” says Vanessa Casilla, chef and co-owner at Mama Said Pizza Co.

“We can now create even more new items on the menu, but still retain our playfulness at the same time, but with a larger team.”

The restaurant is located at 3135 Murray Street, which is 600 metres (or an eight minute walk, or a three minute bike ride) down the road from Twin Sails.

And yes, the food truck will live on, and can expect a new menu later this spring.
