7 places to find great burgers in the Tri-Cities
Because burgers are an art form in their own right
There’s no mistaking the soft, cow-patterned storefront of Vera’s Burger Shack, even more so the taste of their burgers—the patties are thick, juicy and consistently tasty no matter which sandwich concoction you choose. You can either customize your toppings, selecting from their long list of “extreme flavour shots” consisting of items like jalapeño poppers and fried mushrooms, or choose one of their daily specials. The weekend “Pawer” burger, topped with cheddar, fried egg and caramelized onions, looks absolutely delicious.
Address: 254 Newport Dr, Port Moody
Coquitlam Grill has to be one of the most iconic diners in the Tri-Cities for breakfast, lunch and dinner, consistently providing good service, generous portions and great prices for their food. Their burgers are hearty and comforting, with options ranging from classic-as-can-be (aka a single patty nestled in between pickles, lettuce and tomato) to the hulk burger that gets topped with smoked farmer’s sausage and fried egg.
Address: 2635 Barnet Hwy #108, Coquitlam
If you’re looking for a balance between adventure and familiarity, Red Robin proves to be the master of both. This burger bar has all the beautiful fixings that you’d hope to find at a classic diner—crazy fries, wings, cream sodas and ice cream floats—along with every kind of burger we can think of. From beef patties topped with candied bacon and whiskey BBQ sauce to a custom blend ancient grain vegan burgers, the possibilities are endless for everyone.
Address: 3000 Lougheed Hwy, Coquitlam
This chill, easygoing pub is known to be a popular spot in Port Coquitlam to grab drinks and enjoy greasy, satisfying pub food. Though they’ve got an extensive menu, the burger and sandwich sections are undoubtedly the first thing you’ll notice by the sheer number of choices. All sandwiches are built on a toasted Kaiser bun with pickles, red onions, tomatoes and lettuce, though the meat and cheese combinations are up to you—how about a prime rib philly beef or bourbon blue cheese burger?
Address: 3261 Coast Meridian Rd, Port Coquitlam
There are so many reasons to love Romer’s Burger Bar, from their twice-a-day happy hour specials and craft beer selections to the food itself. Everything is made from scratch (right down to the mayo!) and the quality shines through in every bite—the burgers are consistently juicy and well seasoned with plenty of gourmet toppings to choose from. Be sure to stop by on the weekend too, as brunch is served from 10a.m. to 12p.m.!
Address: 101 Morrissey Rd, Coquitlam
Though Dinakis specializes in Greek fare like gyros, souvlakis and moussaka, their signature burger is reason enough to stop by. You can choose between fire-roasted chicken or beef, accompanied by cured bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and garlic aioli all layered on a seedy, artisan bun. If possible, be sure to leave room for dessert—their blackout torte and tiramisu cheesecake are perfect options to finish on a sweet note.
Address: 2020 Oxford Connector, Port Coquitlam
Grelhados’ “basic” burger is proof that sometimes, simplicity is best. Though you may not see any extravagant toppings or flavour combinations, there’s something inherently perfect and nostalgic about a classic beef patty, cheese and pickle combination, served on a soft brioche bun with crispy wedges on the side. Take note: both vegan and vegetarian versions of this beauty are served here too!
Address: 855 Village Dr Unit #110, Port Coquitlam
