Meiga supermarket opening in old Port Moody IGA location
The new Asian supermarket is set to open in early 2024
There’s a new Asian supermarket coming to the Tri-Cities, as IGA’s parent company closes down their Heritage Mountain Shoppers Village location and will reopen next year with a new brand, Meiga (pronounced may-ga).
Georgia Main Food Group, formerly known as H.Y. Louie, operates IGA and Fresh St. Market locations around BC. Their IGA grocery store at 221 Ioco Rd in Port Moody closed down this past October, making way for the company’s first foray into the Asian supermarket space.

“Meiga will offer quality Asian products in an atmosphere of discovery where new, authentic, and exclusively sourced products are part of our customers’ everyday shopping,” Georgia Main’s COO Gary Sorensen said in a release. “We will constantly be on discovery for new items found through travel and food exploration throughout North America and Asia."
At Meiga, shoppers can expect an array of Asian products, alongside fresh produce and meats. The supermarket will also feature an open kitchen with ready-to-serve hot foods, including traditional Chinese takeout, Cantonese BBQ, RWA beef and pork, hot pot, sushi, fresh bakery, and a juice bar.
Meiga, derived from the Chinese term "美萬家," translating to "beautiful family," is slated to open in early 2024. The company plans to expand the new brand over the next three to five years.
Meiga is currently hiring for clerks, a bookkeeper, and a receiver.
